Why We Love Them | Era & Relevance
Vintage. Renato Balestra, the Trieste-born couturier who opened his first Rome atelier on Via Gregoriana in 1959, was one of the first Italian designers to embrace licensing. His eyewear carried the same sense of Roman glamour as his couture. Named for one of Rome's most celebrated streets, the Via Veneto pairs a bold oversized square with striped detailing in red, white, and black that reads almost like passementerie. Unworn and still fitted with its original orange lenses, it is a striking example of designer eyewear from an Italian couture house.
