Originally introduced during the groundbreaking Porsche Design and Carrera partnership, the 5620 rejected the traditional two-lens aviator in favor of a futuristic single shield secured by exposed precision hardware. Porsche Design later revived the concept as the titanium P'8479 Shield, confirming the lasting importance of the original design.

The silhouette became closely associated with Yoko Ono and remains one of the defining collectible eyewear designs of the late 1970s and 1980s.
