Vintage Marwitz 135 RG5 Red Lens Sunglasses – Germany – Deadstock Unworn

An exceptional pair of authentic vintage Marwitz 135 RG5 sunglasses, made in Germany and fitted with brand new custom solid red lenses by Second Chance Customs.

Produced during the golden era of German luxury eyewear manufacturing, the Marwitz 135 RG5 showcases the precision craftsmanship and futuristic industrial styling that made vintage German frames so influential throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s. The sharply sculpted squared aviator silhouette, brushed metal chassis, and architectural bridge design give this piece a powerful industrial-European aesthetic that feels equally rooted in vintage motorsport, music culture, and high-fashion eyewear design.

The vivid custom red lenses completely transform the frame while respecting its original character, creating an unmistakable statement piece with true collector appeal.

Deadstock / unworn vintage condition.

Slight age-related wear is present on the inside temples from long-term storage. This is not visible while worn and is shown in the photos.

Lens:

Brand new custom solid red lenses by Second Chance Customs.

These lenses were custom cut and professionally fitted specifically for the Marwitz 135 RG5 frame. The bold solid red tint dramatically enhances the already futuristic shape of the frame, giving the piece an unmistakable late-70s / early-80s European editorial aesthetic.

The lens color shifts beautifully depending on lighting conditions, ranging from deep crimson to glowing translucent ruby tones outdoors. The contrast between the industrial brushed metal frame and the vivid red lenses creates an aggressive yet refined visual profile rarely seen in vintage eyewear today.

This lens configuration gives the frame a distinctly cinematic appearance reminiscent of avant-garde European fashion, vintage motorsport culture, Neue Deutsche Welle-era styling, and experimental luxury eyewear design from the period.

Frame:

Original vintage brushed metal Marwitz frame construction with sculpted bridge and slim metal temples.

  • Marked “MARWITZ” on the temple core.
  • Marked “7613 54-18 RG5.”
  • “Portrait” branded temple tips.
  • Made in Germany.

Era:

Late 1970s to early 1980s.

Authentication:

Authenticated and inspected by Second Chance Authenticators.

The Marwitz temple-core engraving, model/reference markings, sizing stamps, hinge construction, brushed metal finishing, hardware style, frame architecture, and overall manufacturing characteristics were carefully reviewed and verified for consistency with authentic vintage Marwitz production from the original era.

Particular attention was given to the original German manufacturing details, including the precision-machined metal front, period-correct temple construction, engraved internal markings, and the overall industrial design language that distinguished high-end West German eyewear during this period.

The “Portrait” temple-tip marking is recognized as a line, collection, or branded detail associated with the production era, while the MARWITZ engraving on the temple core identifies the actual manufacturer.

This frame has been authenticated as a genuine vintage Marwitz production from its original era of manufacture.

Collector Notes:

Vintage Marwitz eyewear remains highly collectible among serious vintage frame collectors, particularly original German-made examples featuring strong geometric shaping and architectural metalwork. The 135 RG5 stands out for its angular oversized aviator profile, minimalist industrial construction, and now-custom solid red lens presentation — a rare combination that feels simultaneously vintage and modern.

Pieces like this are becoming increasingly difficult to source in true deadstock condition.
