Why We Love Them | Era & Relevance

The Kinshasa belongs to Jacques Marie Mage’s celebrated Muhammad Ali collection and takes its name from the city where Ali fought George Foreman in the legendary 1974 “Rumble in the Jungle.”

Its design was inspired by the glasses Muhammad Ali wore during a 1968 press conference at UCLA—a moment remembered for Ali’s composure, intelligence, and cultural authority.

Black Fade is arguably one of the collection’s most dramatic executions. The polished black upper frame gradually transitions into clear beige, allowing light to move through the lower rims. Pale bottle-green lenses and silver-palladium detailing complete the distinctly mid-century composition.

With only 100 pieces produced worldwide, Black Fade is considerably rarer than the 500-piece Noir edition and is one of the most limited Kinshasa colorways.
