Why We Love Them | Era & Relevance

The Taos belongs to an important early chapter in Jacques Marie Mage’s history. First introduced in Summer 2016 through the partnership with Marin Hopper and Hopper Goods, its design draws inspiration from the glasses Dennis Hopper wore in Easy Rider (1969).

Named for Taos, New Mexico—the town that became central to Hopper’s creative life—the frame connects cinema, personal style, and the artistic traditions of the American Southwest. Its engraved temple cores carry that influence into the construction itself.

Root Beer is documented in the Taos collection by 2017. Its appeal comes from a particularly expressive combination: translucent amber-brown acetate, visible engraved metalwork, and contrasting blue lenses. The color allows the frame’s craftsmanship to remain visible from every angle.

Among JMM collectors, Root Beer has developed a following of its own. An unworn, all-original example with its complete Hopper kit offers an opportunity to acquire this early colorway with its original presentation preserved.
