An exceptionally rare and highly collectible early Gargoyles “Eye Armor” shield frame by Pro-tec Inc. USA.

Long before modern tactical and performance eyewear became mainstream, Gargoyles was pioneering futuristic wraparound protection with advanced polycarbonate shield technology, aerodynamic styling, and impact-resistant construction. Pieces like this helped define the visual language of 1980s performance eyewear.

This translucent crystal variation is especially uncommon and features exposed internal metal-core temples, floating shield construction, and an ultra-clean industrial design decades ahead of its time.

Complete surviving examples of the early “Eye Armor” series — especially with original packaging and accessories — are incredibly difficult to find today. 

This piece presents more like archived industrial design than ordinary vintage eyewear.
